Named after Lydia.
Built for joy.

Lydia Bloom & Butter is named after my grandmother, Lydia Esperanza Lucci, who passed away in May 2026. She was the kind of person whose love language was creating with her hands — she started baking later in life, and this business is named after her.

I started baking at 40, with some helpful nudges from important people in my life, while on a mission to do something that was mine. Something with my hands. Something expressive, fun, and a way to share love without needing to be perfect. I am learning as I go — and documenting every step on the blog!

The first paid cake I ever made was a two-tier unicorn with butterflies and a gold horn for a wildly fun four-year-old's birthday. I grabbed a jar of glitter on my way out the door to add as a final touch — something to do together with the birthday girl. And what happened was this: she picked up the jar and dumped the whole thing on it. Every last bit. And it was perfect. That's what this is about.

Fun over fussy. Joy over perfect. But still delicious — and with time, technique that matches the vision. Very much personal.

Butter makes
everything better.

Lydia Bloom & Butter is a cake business and a storytelling platform — built around the belief that handmade things carry meaning, that creative expression is its own kind of self-empowerment, and that every celebration deserves something made with care. I'll be sharing what I bake, the story behind each cake, and what I learned along the way — including all the products and tools I use. And for fun, I'll share other things I love too: what I wear, what I'm into, what's making my life better. Think of it as the honest, behind-the-scenes version of a cake business built around a real life — as a mom, a creator, and someone who at 40 is very much still figuring it out. We're also home to a free immigration advocacy course for immigrant survivors of abuse navigating the U.S. system — because showing up for community is part of the mission too.

Vaca Negra

She was an ocean away, building a life for her children — and she still thought to order my mother a Coke float after school every day.

Because some things
should be free.

Lydia Bloom & Butter is a cake business and a storytelling platform — but it also has one free resource we built because it needed to exist.

The U-Visa & Immigration Self-Advocacy Course is a free, plain-language guide for immigrant survivors of domestic violence navigating the U.S. immigration system. It covers VAWA protections, U-Visa eligibility, T-Visa options, asylum pathways, and how to advocate for yourself when the system feels impossible.

It's free because the people who need it most are often the least able to pay for it. That's the only reason we need.

For Lydia Esperanza Lucci

1936 — 2026. My grandmother. The woman this business is named after.

She started baking cake later in life. It was a fluffy, light mandarin orange cake with layers of cool whip filling — the kind of cake that even non-cake eaters couldn't resist. I know, because I didn't like cake. And I ate hers.

She made people happy with her food, her crafts, and her presence. She loved a late night coffee and a slice of something sweet. She fed people because she loved them — and that's what this business is.

She never got to see these cakes. But I think she would have approved.

Every ingredient is real.
Every cake is made by hand.

Nothing here came from a box. Organic butter, organic pasture-raised eggs, pure Madagascar vanilla, and organic heavy cream — where it matters most, we go organic. No preservatives, no artificial flavors, no shortcuts. This is what homemade actually means.

🧈

What's Inside

Unbleached flour · Granulated sugar · Organic unsalted butter · Organic pasture-raised eggs · Whole milk · Pure Madagascar vanilla extract · Powdered sugar · Organic heavy cream · Baking powder · Salt

We use organic ingredients where it matters most — butter, eggs, cream, and pure vanilla. Real ingredients. No shortcuts.

A note on our vanilla: We use pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla extract — the gold standard of vanilla, made from hand-harvested vanilla beans grown in Madagascar. Rich, creamy, and unmistakably real. It's what makes people say "this doesn't taste like a regular cake." No synthetic vanillin. Ever.

Contains: Wheat · Dairy · Eggs

🌡️

How to Store It

Room temperature for up to 48 hours — buttercream is happiest at room temp. Refrigerate after that and bring back to room temperature before serving. Cold buttercream loses its magic. Best enjoyed within 48 hours.
